CRITICAL REVIEW MATERIALS
The Critical Review was established in 1971 as a way for authors to
explore in-depth topical—and often controversial—environmental issues, with an
emphasis on reviewing and critiquing existing literature on the topic. The
hundreds of references often found in Critical Reviews over the years testifies
to their exhaustive nature.
The Critical Review is published each year in the Journal (usually the June
issue) and presented at A&WMA Annual Conference, where a panel of experts and
the general public are invited to engage in a discussion of the issues. Based on
the comments and discussion at the Annual Conference session, a follow-up
Critical Review Discussion is prepared and published in the Journal (usually in
the September or October issue).
Below is a list of the more than 30 Critical Reviews published in the Journal
since 1971. Reviews are available for free to A&WMA members in electronic format
(nonmembers can view the introductions for free). Reprints of reviews can be
purchased from the Journal’s Editorial Offices.
